What can you do?

The majority of the dogs and cats admitted to the Augusta Animal Services shelter become a number, statistic to be counted, inventoried and await their turn to die. Most will die silently, frightened and alone to be disposed of like trash at the solid waste land fill. There are many stories, which are never known, let alone told. We hope these stories will inspire you to become an advocate for home-less animals, be a more responsible pet owner, donate your time or your money and promote the spaying and neutering of pets.

Suzie

Dear Suzie,

I miss you Suzie, more than I ever thought that I would. But my memories of you are all so good.
Your sad brown eyes, your short knobby tail, how there wasn’t a fence here you couldn’t scale.
The way you sat so still and begged at my feet, waiting for your morning kiss and morning treat.
The way you laid your head on the end of my knee, the way you drooled and slobbered all over me.
The way you could run and run for a hundred miles, the way you made me laugh and made me smile.
I miss that pink spot on the end of your chin,
there will NEVER be another “Suzie” again.
